#Chapter 129: Questions That Can’t Be Answered
Aurora POV
By the time I step onto campus, I’ve already rehearsed the story twice in my head.
It’s not that I’m a bad liar, it’s that I hate lying. Especially to people who’ve been nothing but kind to me. But the truth? That I got into a physical fight with my stepsister and ended up spraining my wrist? That’s a little too messy to tell a bunch of new friends.
Who wants to be around a girl with that kind of family drama?
So when Maddie gasps the moment she sees the brace and blurts, “Aurora, what the hell happened to your wrist?” I plaster on a sheepish smile.
“Oh, this? Totally stupid,” I say, holding up my hand like it’s no big deal. “I slipped on the stairs in my apartment building and tried to catch myself before I completely faceplanted. Sprained it.”
Trevor whistles low. “Damn. Looks brutal.”
“Yeah,” Mariah adds, frowning. “That’s gonna make note-taking a nightmare.”
I shrug. “I’ve been practicing typing one-handed all night. It’s not pretty, but it works.”
