Earlier, Knox had joked that Davin must've eaten feces—why else would his breath smell so foul? But no one expected Davin to have actually done it. Fabian and Lennox felt a huge weight lift off their shoulders. They'd been worried that if Davin's nasty little secret got out, he'd blame them. But now that Jack had spilled the beans, everyone knew. They'd no longer feel guilty about telling the truth. The secrecy would no longer weigh on them, and the pressure of keeping it in would finally ease. Davin felt the disgusted looks from everyone around him. As they deliberately edged away, his face flushed with shame. He firmly denied it. "You're making that up." But the protest rang hollow. Fabian and Lennox's strange, strained expressions gave everything away. Fabian, in particular, looked like he was about to burst, his face reddening as he fought back laughter.
