The rest of the call sounded jumbled. Neil seemed to be trying to calm Charlotte down, but it was too muffled to make out. Jack sighed helplessly and hung up the phone. Recalling the conversation between Neil and Charlotte, Jack felt a weight pressing on his chest. He stepped out onto the balcony for a smoke. Falling out with Charlotte was the last thing he had expected. The Grants and Lycans had reconciled in recent years, and the families had grown close again, but strictly speaking, Jack had only been friends with Neil and Charlotte for five years.
