ELORA'S POV
The following morning, I was sitting across from the doctor in his quiet office, my hands clasped together so tightly my fingers ached. The room smelled like disinfectant and coffee. Every angle of the room looks too clean, too calm for the chaos sitting in my chest.
Lucian was still unconscious. And I was running out of time. Leaving his company unattended for this long is quite risky.
I stared at the framed certificates on the wall, then back at the doctor. “So,” I said, my voice steadier than I felt. “What do you think about moving him from here? We have to leave for Manhattan tomorrow.”
He leaned back in his chair and adjusted his glasses, studying me the way doctors do when they already know the answer but want to soften the blow. “Ideally,” he said carefully, “I would recommend we observe Mr. Weston for at least another forty-eight to seventy-two hours.”
