Chapter 110
Sydney's POV
I woke up to a silent house. Not that it was always noisy in the Alpha's mansion, but there was always this buzzing noise in the atmosphere; the sound of Alpha Tavon's business-like voice making pack business calls or the distant sounds of the whips, the clatters of plates in the kitchen, the murmurs and quiet giggles of Tavon's Omega staff as they chatted animatedly and cracked jokes amongst themselves.
I had grown accustomed to a quiet but not so quiet mansion, but this morning? The mansion was dead silent. If a pin dropped, I swear, it would echo throughout the mansion. It was eerily still as if the walls were also holding their breath.
I peeked out a few times to try to hear any whispers or signs of trouble, then gave up and went to take a bath. Even the hot water couldn't calm my growing worry.
I got dressed and went downstairs for my usual lonely breakfast. My footsteps were the only sound in the quiet hallways.
It felt as if I were the last wolf on earth.
