The cheap earbuds barely muffled the noise.
Even with the volume turned up, Sloane could still hear him.
The pounding. The growl that wasn’t quite human.
Late at night, it didn’t sound like a man anymore, more like a wolf howling at her door.
For twenty long minutes, she sat frozen on the couch, heart hammering, every instinct on edge. Her wolf half stirred restlessly beneath her skin, ready to defend, ready to run.
Then, sirens.
The sound at the door finally stopped.
When Sloane opened it, two officers were hauling Damon, half-conscious, reeking of alcohol and fury, down the hall toward the elevator.
A young female officer turned to her and gave a reassuring nod. “Ma’am, the drunk’s been taken into custody. You’re safe now.”
Sloane exhaled slowly, relief flooding through her chest. “Thank you for coming so quickly.”
