Lisa's POV
The rope burned against my wrists as I strained against the bindings, my shoulders screaming in protest. The warehouse reeked of motor oil and decay, shadows dancing across rusted metal beams as a single bulb swings overhead. My head throbbed where Brayden's fist connected, the metallic taste of blood still coating my tongue.
"You're awake." Jack's voice cut through the haze like a blade. He emerged from the darkness, his scarred face twisted into something resembling amusement. "Good. I was beginning to think Brayden hit you too hard."
I forced myself to meet his gaze, refusing to show the fear clawing at my chest. "What do you want?"
"What I want?" Jack circled me slowly, his footsteps echoing in the cavernous space. "I want to know why you're so important that half the city's been turned upside down looking for you. I want to know why the wolves are so desperate to protect someone who's clearly not one of them."
