Savannah I woke up screaming. Not softly. Not gently. I jolted awake like someone had ripped me out of a nightmare by the throat, my lungs burning as I sucked in air, my heart slamming so violently against my ribs it hurt. My hands flew to my stomach before my eyes even fully opened. I pressed my palms there—hard. Desperate. As if I could physically shield my baby from everything that had gone wrong. As if I could still feel it, reassure myself that it was still inside me. Still alive. Still safe. “Oh God—no, no, no—” “Savannah!” Alyssa’s voice cut through the fog as she rushed to my bedside, her hands hovering uselessly over me, unsure where to touch. “Jesus Christ, Sav, slow down. Take it easy. You’re going to hurt yourself—” “Where is my baby?” I gasped, my voice breaking as panic flooded me all at once. My vision blurred instantly. “Where is my baby? Is my child okay?” Her face paled. “Savannah, calm down,” she said quickly, gripping my wrist to stop my frantic movements. “The baby
