Third Person POV

In the early morning of the royal palace, Olivia watched the news with awe and shock. She could see her face, her past life, and watched as the reports gave an update on the Luna’s funeral services. The date has changed several times now and each time it only infuriated Olivia more and more. 

She couldn’t understand why he was posturing like this, speaking to reporters about his sorrow, about the horrid murder of his mate, as though he hadn’t known all along that this was her fate. Olivia was dying anyways, Alicia just made sure it happened before she could give birth to the Alpha’s offspring first. 

Gabriel set nearby, flipping through his newspaper. “So sad about that Luna.”

Olivia felt the fear strike up her throat. “Why do you say that?” Of course, to Olivia, she knew her truth. she knew Herold wanted her dead, wanted to divorce her, and had no use for her anym



Olivia’s POV

Herold was still staring at me, waiting for me to reply. I fear I have exposed my identity, seeing him step forward, almost sizing me up, and at last he broke eye contact, seeing Gabriel cross the room toward us. The entire wake had been watching and seeing the Alpha King march over now only caused the interest in the room to spike more. 

“Who are you?” Herold whispers, his tone harsh and taut. 

“I am the Queen Luna,” I say, sure of my words. 

Gabriel charges between us, snaking an arm around my hips and pulling me into his side charmingly. I find myself sinking into his grasp, comfortable with my mate; a feeling unfamiliar to me. He brushes his hand under my chin, sneaking a glare toward Herold in doing so, as though to mark his possessiveness over me in front of this falsely grieving Alpha. 

“Is everything okay, my dear?” Gabriel asks, his eyes soft and kind in this



Olivia POV

It’s hard to ignore the awkwardness that flooded the crowed surrounding us now. Some looked away, while others held a hand up to their mouth in shock. The King Alpha was respectively surprised, his face frozen in shock at the feeling of being slapped. 

“I’m your husband,” he mutters simply. 

The words hardly reach my ears. If this was true than the man before me really is the King Alpha and that means the body I’ve been given belongs to his mate, the noble Queen Luna. She was a beautiful creature from what I have known but it’s no secret that she had severe depression. I can only imagine that’s why she is in this condition. 

“You’re so pale, my dear. Warriors, get my Luna to the hospital immediately.”

Soldiers had begun to swarm me suddenly, lifting my cold, wet exterior onto a rolling bed and carrying it through the rough sand. I stared at the stars for as long as I could, wondering if the moon goddess was watching over me still. 

She had done the unthinkable for me and I felt it all rush over me at once. She had felt my pain, even felt sorry for me. She wanted to make things right and I can only imagine that she felt responsible for my treatment in the end. I don’t recall the pain of death but I feel the after effects now. 

Once in the hospital, I finally felt cared for in the first time in forever. I got around the clock care and guards posted at the door, making me feel safe enough to sleep. It was unlike my life in Herold’s pack where I felt constantly tormented. For now I sleep peacefully, my dreams varying from the good times in Herold’s pack, to the bad times in the end. 

My hands were covered in IVs and bandages, a few scrapes healing from when the Queen Luna had jumped off the cliffs. I try not to think of her pain, feeling too damn familiar to me and my aches of the past. 

“My Luna,” the doctor hums, his eyes light as he shuffles through the packet. “You’ve been here about a week now and your system has improved. You’re good to be released later this evening.”

I can’t help but think of my last doctor’s visit, being told I was pregnant and dying. 

“Is that all?” I breathe, concerned this life will play out like the last. “I’m going to be okay?”

The doctor gives me a sympathetic look. “Yes, Queen Luna. You’re going to be fine.”

I hardly believe it until I’m finally released, a few of the royal guards leading me back to the palace. They are quiet, vigilant, and they don’t dare look me in the eyes. I can accept this new life in a way, but I know the Queen Luna was living a life of lies, just as I had been. I can’t make the same mistakes this time or I’ll be dead again. 

I don’t think the moon goddess gives third chances to life. 

We arrive at the palace, overlooking the gentle sea. I’ve always loved the ocean and use to beg Herold to go with me but he would promise the trip and then make an excuse later to get out of it. I thought the beach would bring us closer together but I realize now that nothing would have brought us together. 

I can only imagine him cheerfully celebrating my death now. 

The palace towers up into the sky, beautifully ornate with gold trimmed windows and white marble floors. The warriors lead me into the foyer and expect me to know where I’m going, bowing their heads as they leave me to my own devices. 

I’m still weak but I am also curious, daring to stroll down every hallway, peering into every room, looking for something that will pique my interest. 

I find the office of the Alpha King, daring to look through a few of his files and such, my hands running through the packet that sits upon his desktop. 

Dissolution of Marriage Agreement. 

At least when I see these papers, it doesn’t wound me so terribly. I read the name at the bottom of another file nearby, the print exquisitely in cursive. Gabriel Marquee. I never knew his name all these years but seeing it now, I can picture his beautifully concerned face on the shore of the beach. 

Looking back at the divorce agreement, I can’t help but notice that neither names have signed in their respective slots. 

“Finally going to sign the papers?” his voice rings out from the doorway, his tall, handsome exterior watching me carefully. 

Looking back to the packet, I shrug simply. “If divorce is what you want, then I’ll give it to you.” Truthfully, I couldn’t handle another loveless marriage and more false hope to be cared for. I want this divorce too; the Queen Luna and I seem to be in similar spots. 

Gabriel seems taken aback by this. “You told me last week you weren’t sure if this was the right move. I find you dead on the beach and suddenly you want to sign the papers?”

I try to seem nonchalant about this ordeal. “I’m not going to stay in a marriage if you don’t want to. I can’t force love.”

He looks at me quizzically. “Well… should we sign now, or?...”

I reach for the pen, realizing suddenly that I may have overestimated my ability to sign these papers. For starters, I don’t know the Queen Luna’s name. If I sign it Olivia Opal then it would certainly raise some concerns. 

“I don’t know cursive,” I breathe, a lie. 

Gabriel stares through me for a minute before crossing the room and coming up behind me. He reaches for a spare piece of paper, cornering me between his broad chest and taking my hand in his. He traces the name across the blank sheet, his warm and gentle touch on my fingers tender and loving. 

Rebecca Marquee.

I sigh in relief, surprised that fib actually worked. 

I reach for the packet, Gabriel moving in front of me for a second as his desk phone rings. I step back, watching his calm, exquisite exterior go taut. He speaks so fluidly, so firm, that I’m almost in awe. He is professional and powerful, something Herold had never been as Alpha. 

Hanging up the phone, he brushes a hand through his curly, brown hair. “That was the warriors outside the gate. I have business to handle now,” he groans. 

“Okay. We can just finish this later then.”

He turns on his way out, his lower lip rolling attractively through his perfect teeth. “You going to ask me what the business is?”

I tap my fingers on his desk, looking at my new name. “No. Should I?”

He shrugs, puzzled. “This is where you normally accuse me of cheating or lying or—I don’t know, my dear. You normally ask questions right about now.”

“I have nothing to ask,” I admit simply. 

For a moment, I watch him sigh in relief, daring to expose a grin that doesn’t fully expand. He leaves the office quickly, as if he intends on getting back here just as fast. I’d be remised if I hadn’t noticed his suspicions develop. He doesn’t know who I am, not yet, but if I keep exposing my real, calm behavior then he will know I’m someone else. 

I can’t let that happen.
