The whales were covered in bloody injuries as if they had died from the attack of some sort of sharp weapon. The reporter in the news said that this might be a result of some illegal fishing on the Rostead coast, where fishermen had no choice but to dump the whales they had caught back into the ocean.
Whales were precious creatures of the ocean, especially blue whales. The reporter urged the public against illegal fishing, but Wilbur froze at the sight of the live feed from the ocean. The dead whales looked especially fresh, and there was a pattern to their injuries.
Those injuries did not look like they were caused by binding ropes around them to hold them down before going in for the kill, but like a gigantic creature had wrapped a tentacle of sorts around the whales to strangle them to death.
