The bedroom's layout was both familiar and unsettling.
Shelmaine's eyes wandered around the room as a sharp pain throbbed in her temples. When she looked up, her gaze caught on a "wedding photo" hanging on the wall. It was crude and unrefined, nothing like the elegance of a true wedding portrait.
The couple in the photo was none other than her and Samuel.
She was draped in a veil, her hair styled in a traditional Chiran bun, adorned with a single daisy, making her look innocent and naive.
Samuel, standing beside her, wore a calm expression, staring blankly at the camera, as if he didn't understand the moment's significance.
The memories rushed back. That photo had been taken not long after they received their marriage certificate. On a whim, she had insisted on taking a picture with him to hang on their wall.
Aside from the small photo on their certificate, this was the only other photo they had together. One of just two. But she didn't understand why it was hanging here now.
