Chapter 692
Maeve didn't waste a second. "Mr. Carter knows why I'm here. Let's skip the pleasantries—take me to Bryce."
"Of course, everything's ready. Right this way, please."
The staff led Maeve to the interrogation room.
Bryce had been locked up so long that a scruffy beard had taken over his face, making him look worn out. The moment he saw Maeve enter, he nearly lunged for the door, but the guard intercepted him.
"Ms. Scott, you can speak with him in here. We'll stand outside and keep watch. Just call if you need anything."
"No need," Maeve replied coldly. "I'm here to take someone with me."
"That's not really something we can authorize."
The staff hesitated, but Maeve shot them a steely glare. "Bryce is an artist with Mirage Group. Our lawyers have been negotiating with you for a while.
"We'll cover any damages for the person who was hit. And honestly, after all these days of interrogation, haven't you found out anything?"
"I didn't hit anyone!" Bryce interjected.
Maeve's gaze hardened. "If he didn't hit anyone, why has he been locked up for so long?"
"The issue is that the evidence is lacking, and… the alleged victim is unwilling to settle."
"Oh? Who is this alleged victim? I'd like to see who dares to extort an artist from Mirage Group!"
Maeve's commanding tone made the staff break out in a sweat.
Now it made sense why Richard hadn't shown up in person. Who would have dared to provoke Zion's woman?
"How about this—bring the alleged victim here, and I'll talk to them myself. If they agree, you let Bryce go."
"Well…" The staff still looked conflicted.
When Bryce was first brought in, Richard had instructed them to clarify the situation, but the other party had refused to budge.
Even if they called the person now, what could Maeve—a woman—possibly change? Most likely, she'd just encourage them to demand a hefty settlement.
"What's the hold-up? Can't you handle a simple issue like this? Richard should have told you I'm not easy to deal with. I'm giving you a way out; if you don't take it, I'll simply take Bryce with me."
After all, with Maeve's status, no one dared to stand in her way.
The staff quickly raised their hands in surrender. "No, no! I'll go get the person right away!"
"Great, I'll be waiting here." Maeve settled into one of the chairs. "But I don't have much time. If they're not here in half an hour, I'm leaving with Bryce."
"Not a problem! I'll personally bring them over!" The staff hurried out after reminding the officers to keep a close watch on the door.
Once Maeve was sure they had left, she asked Bryce, "What really happened?"
"I heard you had an incident on the island, so I canceled all my work that day. But as soon as I stepped out of the studio, someone crashed into me, fell to the ground, and started yelling that I hit her.
"There was a crowd around who made a scene. And I don't know who called the police, but they showed up fast."
