Chapter 694
Victoria got flustered and said, "What's it to you? If you've got something to ask, just spit it out. Otherwise, I'm going back to sleep!"
"You accused Bryce of hitting you—someone must've put you up to that, right?" Maeve cut straight to the point, catching Victoria off guard.
"What do you mean, 'accuse'? He really did hit me!"
Maeve noticed something off in Victoria's expression and pressed further. "I did some digging and found out you're not even a fan of Bryce. So, what were you really doing at the studio that day?"
Maeve's bluff was smooth, but Victoria didn't seem rattled. She replied firmly, "I am a fan of Bryce! I went there to meet him and get an autograph."
"Who knew he'd just lash out at me? Just because he's a big star doesn't mean he can get away with that! Bryce is just a pretty face, nothing more!"
Maeve leaned back in the chair. "Not many people know Bryce's schedule, and he left the studio early that day. How did you find out?"
"I got the tip-off in advance!"
"From where?"
"From the fan group, of course!"
"So you're part of that group?"
"Of course!"
"Then tell me your username. I'll check it out."
At this, Victoria froze.
Maeve raised an eyebrow. "Those who know Bryce's schedule and can get an autograph are usually big fans. Our fan group isn't that big. If you're a big fan, I should be able to find you easily."
She casually waved her phone in front of Victoria, making her squirm.
It was easy to frame Bryce, but pretending to be a fan was a whole other ball game. A verified big fan in the group wasn't something you can just fake overnight.
It was becoming increasingly clear that Victoria was lying.
Maeve said, "I know the person who hired you is from the Brooks Group. They just wanted you to keep Bryce occupied for a few days. You've done your part.
"But if you keep insisting on this, I can guarantee you won't be welcome in Seathburn anymore."
"You—"
"Don't panic. If you're willing to drop this, I can offer you a nice payout. With the money coming from both ways, what more could you want?"
Victoria looked tempted as her resolve started to waver.
A moment later, Maeve strolled calmly out of the interrogation room. True to her word, Victoria agreed to settle things privately.
Maeve led Bryce outside, but just as they stepped out of the police station, he grabbed Maeve's arm and frowned. "What did you promise her?"
"I'll give her some money. People like her work for cash ultimately. As long as there's money, they won't cause trouble."
"But doing that is like admitting defeat. You know I didn't touch her."
Maeve lightly patted the back of Bryce's hand. "Don't worry, I'm not one to let things slide. If we've taken a hit, I'll make sure the one responsible pays for it."
"Isn't that Ms. Scott?" Clara's surprised voice cut through the air.
Maeve turned to see Clara arm-in-arm with Sergio, holding a bouquet of roses. They had just walked out of the restaurant next door, looking every bit the picture of a happy couple.
Bryce frowned at the sight of Sergio with Clara.
When did those two start dating?
Before he could dwell on it, Sergio's cold voice broke through, "Didn't expect you to have so many lovers."
