Carrie’s Point of View
I practically screamed in exasperation when Brigit knocked on the walls, signaling that Lucas was home. I'd been searching his room for days now, but hadn't found anything. I knew every nook and cranny of this gloomy place, but there was nothing out of the ordinary. As always, he would give me this weird tablet and I would take it, afraid that he’d snap again and hurt me.
I jumped back in bed and laid down, calming my breathing. I closed my eyes and pretended to sleep.
Soon enough, I heard Lucas come into the bedroom. Instead of moving to his desk like he normally did, I heard him lower himself in one of his chairs by the grande fireplace.
"Stop feigning sleep. I'm not an idiot." Lucas' voice suddenly rang out.
I opened my eyes, somewhat surprised. I knew he always knew I was awake, but normally he didn't say anything about it. I slowly lifted myself from the bed to a sitting position, resting my back against the headboard behind me.
