Chapter 95 : Back to the camp

“Maxine,” I whisper, barely out of the kitchen door and watching her rise to her feet after killing the soldier, ready to take down more. “Maxine!”
I want to stop her, but at the same time, I don’t. I don’t even want to look at him. It’s breaking my heart. I don’t want to sink into the anger I feel because I have to be mentally and emotionally present for Maxine when she finally deals with the loss.
She jumps at the soldiers like a feral animal, slicing and scratching at them, reaching for whatever is closer. The soldiers panic at first, bleeding with deep cuts, but they gather enough of their wits to take out their guns and try to shoot at her.
