Chapter 29

"So, handsome, what can I get for you today?" She finally asked. I didn't miss the way she puffed out her chest just the slightest bit when Ken glanced up at her. "I'll have the triple cheese burger with a side of chili cheese fries. What do you want, baby?" He asked softly while glancing over at me. I felt my cheeks heat up at the way our waitress's face twisted into an annoyed glare directed right at me. "Um, I'll just have..." I trailed off, trying to decide if I should get my usual - a PB&J - or something a tad bit more sophisticated. "Uh, I'll have the chicken fingers and fries basket with a vanilla shake, please," I murmured politely. She popped one hand on her hip and let out a somewhat malicious snort. "Did you want that as the kids meal or the regular size?" She sneered with a challenging look, clearly trying to put me down for my less-than-mature meal choice. I didn't even get to open my mouth before Ken was responding for me.
