Unravel Me, StepbrotherUnravel Me, Stepbrother
Ayoko: Xari Black

The boy with green eyes

Leslie’s POV: I wanted to take off my clothes. It was hot and the back of my dress was sticking to my back. Unfortunately, I couldn’t shock guests that were seated here, for my mother's wedding. I stood behind her, a beautiful bouquet in my hand. They were real flowers, my mother didn't want any of that synthetic nonsense at her wedding. The other bridesmaids wore similar dresses. My mother's train was made up of kids my age, kids from the art class she taught in high school. She was smiling, tears glistening in her eyes as her new husband read his vows to her. Her husband, my step father— Brandon Rivers. I was eighteen and yet my mother was remarrying again. Brandon was a nice man. He made my mother happy. He did charity here and there. And he was the owner and CEO of a group of companies. Brandon was a billionaire. My mother and I were comfortable but ever since Brandon came into our lives, it's been great. But, adjusting to a new family at my age? It wasn't on a list of things I wanted to do. I looked around again at the small crowd sitting in rows of chairs. My mother didn't want the media at her wedding. Brandon had managed to make sure that it was private. Only one magazine had been invited to cover the wedding. I didn't really care. He still wasn't here. I didn't know who ‘he’ was. I didn't know what he looked like. I only knew his name. His name was Wade, Brandon's son and now, my step brother. He was supposed to be here for the wedding. He was supposed to have been back from college. His flight had been delayed so he had to spend the night in another town and catch a flight here in time for the wedding. But, he still wasn't here. I was the only one going through this torture. I drowned out the rest of what was happening until they  said, “You may now kiss the bride.” Brandon dipped my mother, claiming her lips. I smiled. I was happy for them, happy for my mother. She'd found love again, one that wanted to stay forever. They faced the crowd, their cheeks probably hurting from all this smiling. They waved, my mother showing everyone her ring. They were going to cut the cake and toss the bouquet soon. But as the celebration continued, I found a quiet corner, bringing out my phone. “Beautiful wedding, isn't it?” A voice asked, drawing my attention away. I looked up to a pair of the most magnificent green eyes. They watched me with an intensity that caused my insides to sizzle. He was close enough that I could smell the pine and rich wood smell coming from him. He held out a can of soda to me. There was no one serving soda at the wedding. So, I knew that this stranger had brought it with him. I didn't remember where I knew him from but I smiled politely, taking the drink from him. “It is.” The moment our fingers touched, I felt electricity ripple through my body and settle in my core. What the hell? He didn’t seem to have felt it because he took a drink from his own can. I watched his adam apple bob up and down and I wondered what it would feel like to kiss his neck. Skies, I was horny. I looked away from my new s*x dream. “But you're here, not celebrating with them.” He said. He tilted his head, curly brown hair falling over his eyes. “I just needed to catch some air.” I looked up at him again through my lashes. “And why are you here? There are drinks and food to eat, a new couple to congratulate.” He suddenly reached out then, tucking a strand of my blond hair behind my ear and stealing my breath. He leaned against the brick wall, next to me. His fingers brushed against mine. I wanted him to take my hands in his, to intertwine our fingers. “I needed to catch some air.” He said, using my own words. “And, I might sound like a flirt, but there was something about you that drew me in. I think it's because you’re the most beautiful woman here. No offense to the bride.” “None taken.” I said. My mother would have gushed at the compliment. She took pride in me. The corner of his lips curled upwards in a smile. His lips were pink, so pink that I was tempted to swipe my thumb over them to see if he was wearing lipstick. Or maybe I wanted to use my lips instead. I brought my eyes back to his and noticed that he'd caught me staring at his lips. I blushed, looking away. Why did he have such an effect on me? And who the hell was he? “He's here!” I heard my mother shriek. I turned away from the stranger to look at her. She and Brandon were walking towards me with wide smiles. “He's here?” I repeated. He was here. I looked behind them, hoping to see Brandon's son trailing but they came to me alone. I was slightly disappointed. Did they mean he was here, as in town and not at the wedding? “Mom, where is he?” “‘Mom’?” The stranger repeated. I remembered that he was still behind me. I wanted to introduce him but then, I remembered that I didn't even know his name. I looked back at him, seeing his eyebrows furrow. “Yes, this is my daughter — Leslie.” My mother grinned. I looked back at my mother sharply. “You know him?” I asked, looking back at him. Brandon laughed, clapping his hand over the stranger’s shoulder and pulling him into a hug. I felt the blood rush away from my face. The stranger never once took his eyes off of me and I noticed my shock mirrored on his face. “Yes, silly.” She laughed. “Say hello to Wade— your step brother.”
