Christopher's pupils contracted sharply. He could now see clearly that the mark had disappeared entirely. He had lost every means of bending my feelings without that mark.
It was right after the others and I left that Christopher—consumed by regret—struck the wall with his fist, leaving it torn and slick with blood.
It was then that the butler, Gerard Ballard, sighed deeply and advised him against his fixation, saying, "It is a well-known fact that a werewolf's mark is meant for only one, but life's twists and turns are beyond our control. Ms. Stone had made up her mind. There's no point in holding on to what's already lost, Alpha."
Christopher shut his eyes for a moment before asking Gerard about the conditions that would cause a mark to disappear.
Gerard hesitated briefly, considering his response. He then replied, "It happens when the person with the mark gives up on you completely."
