Aria's POV
At that moment, Viktor reminded me so much of Knox. This was exactly how Knox spoke—with bitterness, regret and self-hate.
Knox had me to constantly remind him that he was not a monster, and that he deserved good things.
But Viktor had no one to remind him of that.
My heart broke for him.
I hesitated for a moment, before I placed a hand on his shoulder, ignoring the twinge in my arm at that movement.
“You can't go back and change the past, Viktor. The only thing you can do is just… move forward.”
There was a moment of comfortable silence where we just sat there.
He finally turned to face me again. His eyes were dark with an unreadable look in them. “Why are you like this?” He murmured.
“Like what?” I asked quietly.
“So… kind and forgiving,” he said, almost with disgust. “After everything I’ve done to you, and the pain you've gone through. I just don't understand why you're here sitting beside me and talking to me this way.”
