Lia didn't even glance at Rowan. She just desperately shoved against the deformed car door.
With a screech of metal, the door finally gave way and opened a crack. Lia scrambled out of the vehicle as if escaping the plague, crawling on her hands and knees towards the road. Not once did she look back.
Rowan's hand drooped weakly. At this moment, he suddenly remembered the first year he was with Ava.
Back then, they had gone to inspect a newly developed resort. At the construction site, a heavy object suddenly fell from above and headed straight for him.
It was Ava—the woman who usually couldn't even open a jar—who threw herself over without hesitation and pushed him away forcefully with her slender body.
The object grazed her back as it fell, cutting open a deep wound that exposed bone.
