TO BE HONEST

"Go ahead and change your clothes," Alex said with authority to Diane. "We will have breakfast outside since we have nothing to eat here at home. Nothing but only eggs. Those aren't enough." "Wow. Really? You just realize now?" Diane said to herself. Before she could even utter these words, she quickly went inside her room and changed her clothes. She goes to her wardrobe and checks the clothes that she has. Oh, she doesn't want to wear anything elegant, she doesn't want Alex to think that she wants to impress him. So, Diane chose a grey-colored t-shirt with a heart design at the middle and skinny blue jeans with sneakers; a very simple outfit, perfect for someone getting groceries. She slightly combed her shiny black hair and let it loose. It's still wet and she doesn't want to ponytail it. The last time she did, it curled up. She doesn't want that. She put a little powder on her face and applied a pink lip gloss so she won't look pale. She took her sling bag and put her cellphone inside. Diane finally got herself ready and went outside. She saw Alex sitting on the sofa waiting for her. Wow, so this is how it feels when a husband is waiting for you. "I am so sorry if I took long. Have you been waiting here?" She apologized, realizing she always makes him wait. "No, I just arrived when you came out. Shall we go?" he asked after he raised his head. "Yes!" she answered. "Alright, then. Let's go." He stood up and made his way out of the house. She just followed the man as he walked out. Alex turned his head to her, "Once we are back, we will register your finger on the door system so that you can go in and out even without me," he said. Diane just nodded in response. They walked together towards the elevator and just went downstairs and used the main door. She remembered his car was in the basement, and she was just wondering while following the man. Why are they going in this direction? "Don't be confused, we will just walk to Paul's Restaurant to have breakfast but we will go back and use the car to go to the mall and buy our household stuff," he said to her, "I assume that you have looked around the house already. If you have noticed, it doesn't have any of what we need. We do not have any tools or equipment in the house and since you are a woman, I am confident that you know everything that we need to buy and we need to us, right?" he added and winked at her.? She just listened to him quietly and tried to understand what he said.? But, what's with the wink? Goodness. Is he trying to lure her with his charm? God, "Husband, don't do that again. I don't know what I can do to you," Diane said in her head. Her man is very weird. On their first day, he hired her as a part-timer, the second day, they got married and now, he is her husband. She became a wife to a man she doesn't know completely. A man she met less than twenty-four hours. Oh, right. She still can't get over it.? She still thinks about a lot of things. Since yesterday, she haven't gotten the chance to talk to him. There are a lot of questions running through her mind and the more she thinks of the answers, the more her minds get tired. She thinks of these but she still cannot get the answer unless Alex will talk to her. Well, they finally reached the restaurant after a five-minute walk from their apartment. "Good morning mam and sir!" the waiter greeted them as they entered the place. There aren't many customers yet. They can freely choose where to sit. "Should we just sit there?" She pointed out the table outside the restaurant. Alex just nodded. There aren't many cars passing by so they don't have to worry about the smoke. She can still inhale fresh air. She can feel the cold air touch her face. This is relaxing. She closed her eyes. If only life can be okay with just fresh air. Then, all should be in its proper place but well it's not. Sometimes, or more often than not, life is just unfair. It's unfair to everyone in different ways. But before her mind wandered, the waiter came to their table to take orders, "Cappuccino, scrambled eggs, pancake, and a glass of orange juice for him," she said. Well, this man doesn't want coffee. That's why there is no kettle nor a cup and mug in his apartment. This is the first time she saw a man who isn't into coffee. How did he survive the sleepless nights during his college days? She wondered. "Do you like coffee?" he asked her. She's a bit surprised. Maybe he noticed that every time they eat together, she orders coffee. "Yes." She smiled at him. "I feel like my day is not complete when I don't have coffee," she answered. "Just like when I woke up today. You don't have any at your apartment. How about you?" she asked him back even though the answer was too obvious. He shook his head, "No. I do not like coffee or even fresh milk," he responded. "I see that's why you don't have anything related to coffee in your apartment. I hope you don't mind if I drink too much of it." Their orders arrived, and they started eating.? They ate quietly. She just observed the man in front of her. She knows that the man is aware of how striking he is. But, why are they in this kind of deal? She continues eating while her eyes were glued on him. He is so classy. The way he uses the spoon and fork, the way he bites his food. Just perfect. A scene she would love to capture on a camera. Urgh. What's happening to her? When they are done eating, Alex asked her. "What kind of food do you like to cook? I mean what do you usually cook?" She looked at him, "Hmmm…" She thought for a couple of seconds and continued, "I know how to cook Asian dishes. I have learned from my mother when she is still living with us. How about you? What kind of food do you prefer to eat?" "Nothing in particular," he simply answered. "Oh, that's good to hear then. Honestly, I'm not an expert in cooking. I just know how to cook simple Asian dishes but I didn't say I can cook well." She smiled again and added, "But I am willing to learn and since I am staying with you, I will do my best to cook well for you."? They say the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach What? What did she just think of? Funny, Diane. You aren't on drugs but you think a lot of foolish things lately. Wasn't she just so pissed off at this man because she challenged him and she got fired because of him? He smiled at her and nodded.? Diane's heart almost exploded. He also has a perfect set of white teeth. "To be fair, I want to be honest with you." This caught her attention again. She looked at Alex who continued speaking. "I know how to cook and that's the business that we have." What? Did she hear it correctly? "It's an Italian restaurant. It does have branches here and in our country. I am a chef," Alex added. She was dumbfounded by what she heard. Her eyebrows narrowed. No words came out of her mouth. "I am sorry. Please don't get mad at me. I don't have any intention of keeping it as a secret to you," he apologized. As if he could read her mind, he held her hands. A sudden flow of electricity ran down her body. "I am sorry I promise that I won't be keeping anything from you. Everything you need to know, I will tell you," he said. Diane just stared at his face. She looked at his eyes and at his Adam's apple. She swallowed. This makes her throat dry. She doesn't know how to react. Will she be angry? But she is getting attracted to the beauty in front of him. Her husband is like a sculpture; a creation of a great artist. She can't move. Alex is holding her hands. She's getting mesmerized. She can't do anything or say anything except nod at him. Oh gosh, am I falling in love with him? That couldn't be. She's getting out of her mind.
