Chapter 382
Neil Chapman went silent after hearing that. He’d thought about this before, but he just couldn’t get past the guilt. Sure, Jessica Bennett was unexpected, but she was still his daughter. How could he possibly walk away?
Louise Bennett noticed the silence. After a pause, she sighed, "I just don’t think you should be dragged into this. I know you feel responsible somehow, but her mom’s only using that girl to chase after luxury and power. You shouldn’t be the one paying for that."
Neil gave a bitter laugh. Like he didn’t already know that?
But knowing and letting go were two different things. “Thanks for saying that... I’ll think about it. Sorry for bothering you. Bye.”
He hung up. Louise sat there, feeling a twist of regret. If she'd known her testimony would land Jessica in jail, she would’ve thought twice. But it was too late now—no one could’ve seen this coming. All she could do was protect herself for now.
Just as Neil ended the call, his phone rang again.
