For several days straight, Sophia Reese hadn’t heard a word from Neil Chapman. Her anxiety started creeping in. Could it be that Jessica’s situation had gotten way too messy, and Neil didn’t know how to handle it, so he was avoiding her out of embarrassment?

Sensing the chill in his tone, Sophia laughed lightly, trying to mask the awkwardness. “Nothing really, just noticed you haven’t called lately. Thought maybe work had you swamped, so I wanted to check in—see if you’ve been eating properly.”
