Chapter 156:Painful Consequences
(Grace's POV)
I was drowning in agony. The silver poisoning had surged through my veins, relentless and mocking. My body felt as though it were on fire, each second dragging on, each breath a struggle. The small stash of medicine I had left barely dulled the pain, its effectiveness diminishing with each dose.
A plate of food sat untouched on the nightstand. I hadn't been able to stomach even the thought of eating, the mere smell turning my stomach. My frail reflection in the cracked mirror across the room bore a stark reminder of how much I had deteriorated.
"Grace, please try to eat something," Sarah's voice broke the suffocating silence. She stood at the edge of the bed, wringing her hands. Worry etched deep lines into her face.
I turned my head weakly, barely able to muster the strength to speak. My voice was barely a whisper, raw and brittle. "I can't. It hurts too much."
Her lip quivered as she reached out to stroke my hair. "We’ll figure this out, Grace. I promise.”
