Chapter 99:Silver Nightmares
(Grace's POV)
The darkness of the healing chamber pressed against me like a suffocating blanket. I hadn't slept properly in days. No, weeks. The relentless burning of silver coursing through my veins allowed no escape. Every muscle throbbed, my breath sharp and shallow as if my lungs were struggling against invisible chains.
I curled up on the cot, clutching the thin sheets, cold sweat trickling down my temples. Another wave of searing pain erupted from my chest, spreading like wildfire through my body. I clenched my jaw tightly to keep from screaming.
I reached for my pillow, my trembling fingers grazing the fabric. When I pulled it closer, a strand of brittle silver-colored hair fell onto the white. My heart plummeted.
“No,” I whispered, staring at the strands as if denying their existence would make them vanish. My hand shook as I lifted the scorched hair closer to inspect it. The silver had corrupted it so much it was almost falling apart under my fingers.
