Chapter 27
Summer's POV
Dinner with Alex and Lyra was surprisingly comfortable. Lyra kept the conversation flowing easily, chatting about pack gossip and the latest drama.
"You wouldn't believe what happened at the full moon gathering last week," Lyra said, leaning forward conspiratorially. "Megan from the northern sector challenged Diane for her position in the hierarchy. It was quite the spectacle."
"Who won?" I asked, grateful for the distraction from Alex's intense gaze that hadn't left me since we sat down.
"Diane, of course," Lyra laughed. "Megan may be younger, but Diane has been training with our warriors for decades. Poor girl didn't stand a chance."
I nodded, taking a small bite of my food, hyper-aware of Alex's eyes following my every movement. The way his pupils dilated slightly when I licked my lips made heat pool low in my belly. I shifted uncomfortably in my chair, trying to focus on Lyra's stories rather than the man whose presence seemed to fill the entire room.
