Chapter 23-Her Anger Forces Him Out
Ethan’s POV
My phone buzzed in my pocket, pulling me from my thoughts. I glanced at the screen and saw Marcus’s name flashing. With a sigh, I answered.
“Ethan,” Marcus’s voice came through, thick with concern, “how’s Katelyn?”
I leaned back in the hospital chair, my eyes flickering to Katelyn’s sleeping form. She looked so peaceful, but the bruises and bandages told a different story.
“She’s stable,” I replied quietly. “Still recovering from the accident. Lucas is doing fine too, just a few minor injuries.”
There was a pause on the other end, and then Marcus spoke again, his voice softer this time. “Since her mother passed, I’ve been trying to reach out. But she won’t return my calls. I just… I want to make things right.”
I swallowed hard, feeling a strange mix of sympathy and frustration. “She’s not the same, Marcus. She doesn’t want anything to do with the past. You might have to accept that.”
