Katelyn’s POV
The moment Nancy arrived, the atmosphere shifted. Her heels clicked sharply against the marble floor, her sleek black dress rustling faintly as she made her way through the crowd. The guests naturally stepped aside for her, their whispers growing quieter as she approached. She didn’t even glance at Scarlett at first—her eyes landed directly on me.
“What’s going on?” she asked, calm but firm.
Scarlett wasted no time. “She snuck in!” she blurted, pointing at me as if I’d just robbed a bank. “Nancy, you don’t know what kind of person she is! She dragged her friend in here too. What if something gets stolen tonight? She doesn’t belong here!”
I let out a short laugh, completely unable to hide the disbelief on my face. “You really have a gift,” I said evenly. “Making up stories like that without blinking? Impressive.”
