I fished my phone from my purse and scrolled through my messages until I found Damien's name. My fingers hovered over the keyboard, typing then deleting, typing then deleting again.
Why was sending a simple "I miss you" text so damn hard?
My heart pounded as I composed yet another message
Just as I was debating whether to actually send it, my trembling fingers betrayed me, and I accidentally hit send.
Before I could even process what had happened, my phone lit up with Damien's call.
My stomach dropped.
"Shit!" I fumbled with the phone, nearly dropping it on the hardwood floor.
Taking a deep breath, I swiped to answer. "Hello?"
"Why are you still awake?" Damien's deep voice rumbled through the speaker.
"Just got home," I mumbled, suddenly feeling like a teenager caught sneaking in after curfew.
There was a brief silence before he spoke again.
I could picture him raising an eyebrow, his black eyes narrowing slightly. "Where were you?"
