Alice was so buried in her work that she completely missed the subtle shift in Edward’s mood.
When he suddenly said he wanted to pull the plug on the project, Alice frowned, clearly opposed.
“We’ve already poured millions into it. Sure, it’s not a big deal for GrandVerse, but dropping it now? That’s just burning money.”
Edward raised a brow. “So, what’s your suggestion?”
Alice cut straight to the point. “We keep going, but no more new investment. At least we can try to break even.”
“But the company’s stretched thin, and this is a new initiative. Besides you, no one's touched it,” he said, eyes half-lidded, voice low and raspy, like the devil gently coaxing a lamb his way.
Then he paused, the corner of his mouth tugging into a smile.
“How about... you come back and help me out?”
A faint tension crept into Alice’s chest.
As much as their relationship was... complicated, he was still technically her boss, and she hadn’t officially quit yet. Technically, he had every right to ask her back
