Chapter 138
After shouting “Let’s separate,” Alice slammed the bedroom door and locked it immediately, afraid Edward might come after her. Only then did she breathe a little easier and flop onto the bed.
The day had been chaotic, and the moment her head hit the pillow, she zonked out.
When her phone alarm went off the next morning, it was already eight. Only an hour left before work.
She rushed through her morning routine and stepped out of the bedroom, only to spot the man who’d claimed his leg was in agonizing pain last night, now sitting all fresh and sharp on the couch.
His tailored suit looked immaculate, and he had an almost annoyingly fresh look on his face.
He glanced up from his finance magazine at the sound of the door, his eyes flicking briefly to the antique clock in the corner.
“Right on time. Any later, and we’d be officially late.”
Alice frowned and instinctively said, “So why didn’t you wake me up if you knew we were gonna be late?”
“You locked the door.”
Edward closed the magazine
