Chapter 50
Gerry Hawthorne told the servant to bring in some tea. He wasn’t all that surprised by Alice’s question—after all, his grandson didn’t even know her name. Of course she wouldn’t know what Edward had been through.
“His mom’s last name's Blake,” Edward said quietly. “He used to take her name—Alexander Blake. Later, he changed it, but never bothered updating the name on his ID.”
Walter Sterling did know about the name change, but not the new one.
“So, is he still called Alexander Blake, or what?”
“He goes by...” Just then, a sharp ringtone cut Gerry off. He glanced at the phone on the table—it was his grandson calling.
That brat. He cleared his throat. “I’ll take this. You two keep talking.”
He left the living room and went to his study to answer.
As soon as he picked up, Edward dove right in.
“Grandpa, does Alice have any cousins around her age—guys?”
“None. She’s an only child. And ever since her family fell on hard times, those so-called relatives basically stopped acknowledging them.”
