Chapter 6

*AURORA* “Are you threatening me right now? How dare you use a divorce to threaten me? You think that would make me abandon Carla?!” I sighed, heavily. “On the contrary, I’m doing this to make you get together properly with Carla. You’re expecting a child with her now. The child is innocent so it shouldn’t suffer for anyone’s mistakes and decisions. I want the child to grow up in a normal healthy family. So we should get divorced and you should go marry Carla.” I advised. My fingers clenched around the steering wheel. It wasn’t easy saying these words but I believed that it was what I needed. I shouldn’t cling desperately to a man who doesn’t want me. I didn’t want to continue to spend the rest of my life inside an empty shell of a marriage. I met Lucien’s gaze in the rear view mirror, it was cold and stern. Shouldn’t he be happy? Wasn’t this what he had always wanted? He scoffed.”And you expect me to believe you really want a divorce. Aurora, you threatened to kill yourself I don’t marry you. You literally had a knife to your neck, making everyone lose their mind with worry and now you want a divorce?” “Yes, you’re not worth dying for, Lucien.” He looked shocked hearing that. “We’ll get a divorce when I want us to. For now, I am still trying to convince my family to accept Carla. I do not need my family causing more problems for me so you had better not make any wrong move.” I rolled my eyes. Such a self-centered bastard. “I’ll make any move I want. I don’t care about how it’ll affect you. I am putting myself first from now on.” ********** Soon, we arrived at the Sullivan’s family manor. We had just gotten out of the car when Lucien’s mother, Alma strode out of the house. You could clearly tell by the look on her face that she wasn’t happy seeing her son, even after three years. “I thought you had ended things with that little goblin! You had the nerves to bring her back with you?!” Lucien turned to face me and glared at me. I glared at him in return. What did I do this time? Alma scolded.”Don’t look at Aurora like that! Someone took a picture of you guys at the airport. It’s all over the news.” She then walked closer to Lucien. “When will you respect the fact that you’re married? Do you intend to keep hurting Aurora like this? Up until now, I still don’t understand what you see in that woman! In terms of talent, looks and character, that goblin doesn’t come close to Aurora.” Well, I could humbly accept that. At the very least, I would never betray my best friend. “Stop calling her a goblin!”Lucien warned. “You’re still so stupid, go face your grandfather and tell him this, since you want to be completely ruined, he’ll do it.” “Where is he?” Lucien asked, sounding, irritated. “His study.” He stormed off, immediately. Alma moved closer to me, holding her chest. “How could I have birth such a dumb son? Everyone can see that girl is bad for him. Why can’t he also see that?” I calmly comforted her. “Calm down, mom. You know it’s not good for you to get tensed.” She stared at me, tenderly. “I know this must be very hard for you, Aurora. Even if Lucien is eventually sent out of the family, you’ll still be family to us, Aurora.” She then hugged me. I sighed into her arms, touched by her words. My mother and I have always had a tensed relationship. She was a perfectionist and she always felt that I wasn’t perfect enough. But Lucien’s mother had always been more like a mother to me. Even if she was strict with Lucien now, I know she genuinely cares about him because I had watched how she raised her kids while growing up. She had raised them with love and harmony. My own mother had been obsessed with making the perfect image for herself, having the perfect body and being a top elite. She rarely even calls me but Lucien’s mom calls me almost every day. I thought about how I should break the news of the divorce to the Sullivans. They had really been good to me. But they had to understand, they surely knew that I had done my best to make this marriage work. After chatting with Alma for a while, I headed upstairs. When I passed by the study, I heard the old man yelling at Lucien. I deliberately slowed my pace. “You’ve caused so much scandals! You’ve soiled this family’s good name and since a divorce is the next scandal that you want, your shares at the company will be transferred to Aurora. And if you insist on marrying that woman, you can consider yourself an outsider, you’ve stopped acting like a Sullivan a long time ago anyway!”
