Chapter 7

*AURORA* I continued listening in on their conversation. “Grandpa, how can you comfortably do this to me! I am your grandson! Aurora isn’t even related to us. Her family doesn’t even care about her as much as you do! It is unfair!” “Rory was Miguel’s favorite grandchild.” Rory was my nickname and Miguel was my late grandfather. “From birth, we knew that you two belonged together. And how dare you bring up the issue of the Diaz against Rory. That family relationship have fallen apart since Miguel passed, Rory has nothing to do with it! If anything, you should cherish her more after all she had been through. How can you treat her so heartlessly? I just can’t understand it! You used to be so much in love with her…” “I fell out of love with her! People are allowed to do that. I am not the first man who has fallen out of love with a woman!” Lucien thundered. “Fine but remember, if you push through with the divorce, in fact the day you give up the identity of Aurora’s husband, that is the day you’ll be wiped off my will, completely. You’ll become penniless!” I suppressed my lips in a tight line. But I needed a divorce. How was I going to bring it up to Grandpa Sullivan? Will he be mad at me? Sighing, I headed for my bedroom. The Sullivans had really been good to me and they always defended me in every way. Forcing Lucien to marry me was partly to make me a part of their family and have Lucien as a safe haven. But he was far from a safe haven. And I was tired of holding onto him now. ****** I was sitting in front of my dresser, taking off my make up when the door was pushed open, roughly. No one needed to tell me who that was. I continued wiping my face, paying no mind to him but I could see his reflection on the mirror, he looked pissed. He came to stand behind me, fuming. “Aurora, I really need the potion you fed my family with! I can never understand why my family cares only about what you want. They literally do not give a shit about me!” I finished taking off my make up and then starting to put on a face mask. “I guess they found me more reliable than you. I mean you ran away with your mistress three years ago claiming to go study abroad. You didn’t reach out to your family. You totally abandoned your duties to your family. Your family has a huge conglomerate to run. Have you ever done your part to convince them that you’re worthy of any inheritance?” Lucien laughed. “So you took advantage of the fact that I was away to please them and turn them against me? Convincing them to leave me penniless when we get divorced?” He moved closer to me.”Aurora, you’re the most despicable woman I know. You really would do everything to keep me.” I then turned around to face him. “I admit, the only thing I convinced your family to do was to make you marry me, which I regret now. As for the other things they did to you, it was their choice, I didn’t ask for your properties and I didn’t convince anyone to leave you penniless.” He scoffed. “You expect me to believe that?! You had a knife to your neck, you were beginning to hurt yourself, playing a fucking pity card. When I look back down, I regret ever dating you, I regret ever being close to you. You are evil. But then again, what do I expect from someone that has the blood of a murderer flowing in her veins.” I immediately slapped him. How dare he attack me? As my most trusted friend, I exposed all my vulnerabilities to him, but he turned my weaknesses into a knife, stabbing me again! Lucien's eyes were red, he covered his cheek and glared at me. I took a deep breath and said, "Why are you taking it out on me? If you love Cara so much, why can't you give up everything for her? What? Isn't she worth it?!" Lucien clenched his fists, remaining silent. I walked closer to him, "See? Lucien, you have a choice. If Cara is important to you, you can choose to give up your wealth. But you didn't, because you know Cara is nowhere near as important as your wealth and privileges!" "The obstacle between you and Cara was never me. It's your own desires, so please stick to your love for her and stop bothering me. I want a divorce, and if you can convince grandfather, I'll be very happy!" He glared at me as if he wanted to strangle me. I matched his gaze, I’ve had enough of him. The tense atmosphere was broken by a knock on the door. The butler’s voice rung the air. “Sir Lucien, Madam Aurora, dinner is ready. The rest of the family are waiting for you two.” **************** The Sullivans were complete at dinner that evening. The youngest, Fabiola was home from college. She was in her third year in college. “Lucien, I thought you’d never come back home. Are you finally done with that evil bitch now?” I grimaced and when I looked up, I wasn’t surprised to find Lucien glaring at me. Why did he always take it out on me? Did I call Carla an evil bitch just now? She was an evil bitch though.
