Chapter 3 Fun At The Park

I tuned out the teacher calling the other names as realization to what she just said registered in my brain. Surely, she's got to be mistaken. I can't work with Josh. I really can't. That's like asking a dog to sing and dance! Okay, I'm exaggerating a little. But still, I am so screwed. What have I done to deserve this? Well I did forget to feed my pet fish once and it died and I told my mom it was food poisoning. But could you really blame me? I was only five for heaven sakes! I shook my head to clear my rambling thoughts and turned to look at Josh. He was looking back at me with an annoyed expression. I turned back around quickly and sigh. This was going to be one hell of two weeks. "What are you going to do?" Stacy asked me popping a French fry in her mouth. We were at lunch and I had just told my friends what had happened in class. "There is nothing I can do. The teacher said her decision was final." I said with a sigh before sipping on my apple juice. To think she was one of my favourite teachers. After class, I went and ask if it was possible for a change, but I had no luck with that. Before anything else was said, the cafeteria doors opened and Josh and his three friends walked in. There were Ashton Dyer; he was the closest to Josh and he had beach blonde hair and grass green eyes. Ryder Parker had jet black hair and dark brown eyes. And lastly, there was Brandon Smith; he rarely talks but he has gotten into his fair share of troubles. He had brown hair and light brown eyes. All eyes were on them as they headed in our direction. Please pass our table, please pass our table, please pass our table! I mentally chanted. But of course, luck was not on my side today as I noticed that they stop in front of our table. "Hey dork! I know you don't want to work with me as much as I don't want to work with you. So let's make this easy on the both of us. You do one part of the assignment and I will do the next part. That way we will stay out of each others way." Josh said, a hard look on his face. "Like I would allow you to do a part of the assignment by yourself." I mumbled under my breath. As soon as the words left my mouth, I mentally scold myself. I was so in trouble now. "What did you say nerd?" He demanded in a hard tone. I saw a muscle in his jaw tighten and his teeth were clenched. I held my head down not answering him. The look in his eyes reminded me of Troy. I shook my head. No, I'm not going back there. It was the past. Before I knew what was happening, he grabbed my half finished apple juice and poured it all over my clothes. The entire cafeteria erupted in laughter. I felt the back of my eyes burn with tears but I held them back. I will not give this jerk any satisfaction of seeing me cry. I looked at him with my chin held high. An unknown emotion ran across his eyes, but when I blinked it was gone, like it was never there. "That's what you get when you cross me. No one messes with me. Capeesh?" He asked in a mocking tone. I nodded. He gave me one last look before turning around, heading to his seat. "I can't believe this guy." Samantha was saying when I sighed and released a breath I didn't know I was holding and stood up. She turned to look at me, "Are you okay?" She asked, her eyes were filled with worry. I nodded and gave them both a reassuring smile and left the cafeteria to go to the bathroom to wash up before class. I most definitely have to avoid this boy at all cost from now on. The weekend. It is the only two days that I get a good nights' rest. So why was someone shaking me and waking me up? I groaned and turned on my side trying to ignore the person. However, the person was persistent. "Lexie, wake up. I need you to take me to the park, please?" I heard Jason asked in a whining tone. I opened my eyes and looked at the clock on my beside table. It was 7am. I groaned again and pulled the duvet higher up to my chin and closed my eyes again. Jason tugged on the duvet and pulled it off me and I felt cold instantly. Sigh! What do I have to do to get some sleep around here? I opened my eyes again and give Jason a wary look, "Why don't you ask Andrew?" I inquired. He jumped on my bed and said, "He can't. He is going on a date with Kristin." He explained. I was up now and there was no way for me to go back to sleep, so I sigh and gave in, "Okay, fine. Now get out of my room and let me get ready." He jumped off my bed excitedly and run to the door. I got up from my bed and went to the bathroom. I turn on the hot water and waited for the room to steam up before I slipped out of my clothes and went in the shower. When the water touched my muscles, I relaxed instantly. I rest my head on the wall and closed my eyes. I'm going to kill Andrew. However, I felt a smile tug at the corner of my lips. He was going on a date with his girlfriend. Kristin was a nice girl, was extremely friendly and Andrew was head over heels in love with her. I have never seen my brother like this before and if he was happy, I was happy. I showered quickly and wrapped a towel around my body and went back into my room. I got dressed in a white summer dress with yellow and pink flowers all over it. I decided to left my hair in it natural curls around my shoulders and my face free of makeup. I only applied pink lipstick to my lips. I slipped on my favourite pair of black slippers, grabbed my leather jacket and a book and headed downstairs. "Jason, I'm ready. Come on!" I shouted. I grabbed an apple from the basket on the table, when Jason came downstairs in a grey sweater and blue jeans. A red, yellow and blue ball was hooked under his arm. We head to the front door and leave the house. The park was only fifteen minutes away, so we decided to walk. Ten minutes later, we were almost at the park when I spotted a big oak tree up the distance in the park. I turned to Jason and said, "Last one to reach that big tree is a rotten egg." I said and then took off running. He shrieked and started running too. When I was almost at the tree, I slowed down and allowed him to pass me. He jumped up and down when he reached the tree first. "I won and you're a rotten egg!" He shouted between laughs. "Wow Jay Jay! You are so fast." I said while resting my hands on my knees, pretending to gasp for breath. Jason giggled at me again and then look behind him and say, "Can I go over there and play with my ball, please?" He questioned. "Sure. Just don't wander too far, okay?" I warned him. "Okay." He said while running in the direction he had indicated. I took a seat under the shade of the tree and began to read my book. I glanced up now and then to see if my brother was still there. After a while, he began to play with some other children. Five minutes later, I was so engrossed in my book, I didn't see when Jason snuck up behind me, "BOO!" He said. I jumped ten feet into the air and turned to see Jason running off laughing. "Oh no you don't!" I got up and run after him, "No one escapes the Tickle Monster!" I said in my best monster voice. I caught up with him instantly and grabbed him by the waist and threw him up into the air, still holding on him. He giggled hysterically and I laugh. I then tackled him to ground, straddled him and begin tickling him. He tried to wiggle from my grasp and begged me to stop, but I was relentless. "Okay, okay! Stop! You got me...you got me!" He shouted between laughs. After a minute of more torture, I finally released him. I move from over him and lay down beside him on my back looking up at the sky as we catch our breaths. "Well, well, well. What do we have here?" I heard a voice asked from behind us.
