AFTER SIX MONTHS(PRESENTLY)  MADELINE'S POV  The servant lady escorted me to the place where people sentenced to hard labor live and thrive, known as the penal pier—my new abode. As I approached the rugged paths that led to the penal pier, my heart was heavy and torn apart. The weight of guilt and shame shrouded me for been unable to take care of my baby.  I walked with heavy steps and the air was thick and suffocating. The chill wind made my hair slap across my face and the sight of penal pier's ramshackle buildings and dilapidated shelters was a dismal sight to behold, sending shivers down my spine.   At the entrance of the penal pier, two burly men stood guard.
