When Damon arrived at the hotel, he hadn’t expected chaos. The moment he stepped into the hallway, he saw Lyra struggling against two men, fear written all over her face. Instinct took over. Within seconds, the threat was gone, and she was trembling in his arms.
At the hotel entrance, under the harsh flash of cameras and streetlights, Lyra clung to him like a drowning woman finding air.
“Damon, I thought I was going to die. I thought I’d never see you again.”
Her tears streaked her face, her voice trembling as memories spilled out faster than sense.
“You know what? Seven years ago, your mother told me to disappear from your world. I didn’t want to, but my father… he almost died because of it. I had no choice but to leave.”
She hiccuped softly, staring up at him with wet eyes. “But I never knew that your eyes, your vision, would have problems right after I left. Everyone thought I abandoned you. No one knew how wronged I was.”
Damon froze. Shock rippled through him.
