Chapter 29 Are You Really This Blind
Without meaning to, William found his eyes drawn to Jeanette's left eye. When he looked closer, he noticed a pale crescent scar at the corner of her eye, the faint trace of an old injury.
Something flickered in his eyes. His voice dropped, and he sounded gentler than usual. "Jeanette, was your left eye..."
Before he could finish, Giselle stepped in and caught his arm, tears spilling fast. "Will, what do I do? The doctor says my heart condition is getting worse. If this keeps up, am I going to die?"
She wept with fragile grace, drawing every eye around them.
