Even though William had found out that she had late-stage cancer, he still didn't care.
Jeanette almost laughed at the irony.
After three years of marriage, William still treated her with such indifference. She was no better than a dog to him. Fortunately, she had already made up her mind to divorce him. Otherwise, she might've been in tears.
She took a deep breath. No longer wanting to pick up the test results, she went home.
The pain in her body began pulsing again, sending dull aches through her chest until even her heartbeat felt heavy. She sank onto the couch, took her medication, and drifted into a sleep.
