Alexander pulled over, looked around briefly, then hit redial on the number that had just texted him. "I'm here."
A voice came from the other end-clearly altered, dripping with sarcasm. "You're quick, Mr. Brooks. Bring the money and walk in. Alone."
He brushed aside the weeds by the road and slowly made his way toward the half-finished building.
The voice came through again, this time with a mocking tone. "Tough road, huh? Funny, this land technically still belongs to your family."
Alexander narrowed his eyes, something about that felt off. "What are you trying to say?"
Patrick let out a low chuckle. As expected, Alexander didn't know the full story-no wonder Sophia couldn't get her hands on the land records. They were probably still in that old man's hands-Charles.
