Chapter 19

Victor was inside an old apartment building at Hillside. A woman's shrill scream broke through the night. Several families turned on their lights, but there was no other commotion. Victor kicked down the wobbly wooden door. He noticed a woman, who once sought help at his law firm, was getting choked by her husband against the wall. Her face had already turned purple. "The police will be here soon!" Victor yanked the abuser away before pulling the woman behind him protectively. "If you stop now, the court may consider that you were willing to back out before things got worse! There's still a chance for you to get your sentences lightened!" The man turned a deaf ear to Victor's pleas. He picked up a beer bottle and tossed it toward Victor and the woman. Victor turned to the side to prevent the bottle from hitting the woman. The bottle smashed against his shoulder, causing blood to trickle down his skin. "Bastard! Why are you so nosy? So what if I want to beat her to death?" V
