Chapter 5

Three days later, Emily was discharged from the hospital. She was ready to go home. For the first time ever, Victor waited for her at the entrance. He even took the initiative to take her luggage for her. "It's a holiday today. Since I don't have to work, I'll take you out shopping." Emily was stunned for a moment. Over their years of marriage, he never took the initiative to take her out on a date. Even if Emily already planned out the entire date, applied exquisite makeup, and chose a restaurant that suited his preferences, Victor would still claim that he was too busy with work to turn her down. Emily had no idea why Victor suddenly decided to take her shopping. Was it just on a whim? Or did he feel bad for ditching her at the restaurant, so he wanted to make it up to her? Would someone like Victor even feel guilty? He still hadn't realized the shift in her mood. After driving her to a mall, he led her into a jewelry store. He selected several diamond necklaces and asked the store assistant to bring them out. He asked Emily to try them on. The store assistant was all smiles as she brought out the necklaces. She personally helped Emily put them on and was full of praise. "Sir, you have excellent taste. Ocean's Heart is our shop's best collection, and they look perfect on this beautiful lady. It really suits her. "Madam, you're really lucky to have a husband who dotes on you so much. He even personally selected all these for you. You two must be really happy together." Despite the store assistant's compliments, Victor remained as aloof as ever. Emily stared down at the necklace around her neck. In the past, she would have been over the moon to receive such gifts. But now, she felt it was unnecessary for Victor to buy these for her. "You don't have to buy these for me. I don't like jewelry." But Victor didn't seem to have heard her. After deciding on one of the necklaces, he immediately paid for it by card. Once the store assistant finished wrapping it up, she handed it to him. Finally, Victor turned back to Emily and said indifferently, "I know you don't like these, but it's Amelia's birthday today. It's my present for her. I don't want anything to go wrong, so I thought I'd ask you to help me try them on." Emily's heart lurched violently at his words. Victor hadn't purposely taken her shopping today out of guilt. He just wanted to buy the perfect present for Amelia. From the start, Emily was just a tool. Later, Victor explained that Amelia also invited her to her birthday party. He then took Emily to a club. As soon as they opened the door to a private room, they spotted Amelia right away. A subtle delight flashed across Victor's face. He handed her the present and wished her a happy birthday. Amelia's close friends gathered around as they fought to rip open the present. As their gazes landed on the luxurious, sparkling diamond necklace, the young women shrieked in excitement. "He gave you an expensive diamond necklace just like that. No hesitation at all. Victor, you really spoil her too much! No wonder you two are our top power couple on Freymont College's couple list!" Everyone started complimenting Victor and Amelia. Many former classmates began recalling their youthful days and talked about the past fondly. "Do you remember how Amelia sprained her ankle that year? Victor always piggybacked her to class and study sessions. "So many classmates teased him whenever they saw him carrying her. It was my first time seeing the unapproachable school hunk get shy!" "There was also a time when guys would knit scarves for their girlfriends at school. After we got our scarves, all we had to do was drop a few hints, and Victor stayed up every night to learn how to do it. It only took him one week of late nights to finish knitting a scarf for Amelia!" "I remember clearly that there was another dude who wanted to pursue Amelia. After he got rejected, he spread nasty rumors about her out of fury and embarrassment. "Victor, who was at the top of his class at law school, broke the rules for Amelia for the first time ever. He ran over and beat that guy up. It was really satisfying!"
