Chapter 6
The classmates started chattering more in excitement. However, Victor fell silent.
Even Amelia's expression darkened. She spoke up to cut them off. "That's enough. All that is in the past. Stop talking nonsense. Victor's wife is here too. We don't want her getting the wrong idea."
Instantly, everyone's gazes fell on Emily. They eventually grew embarrassed and stopped talking.
But some of Amelia's housemates felt resentful. They couldn't help but ask, "Victor, what does your wife do? Since you're such a brilliant man, she must be very renowned if she managed to catch your eye. Who is she?"
Victor replied nonchalantly, "She doesn't work. She's just a regular housewife."
Upon hearing his answer, there was an uproar in the private room. Without even meaning to, many looked disdainfully at Emily, their gazes filled with contempt. They began gossiping in low voices.
"Amelia is Victor's ex-girlfriend, who graduated from a prestigious college. She's a well-known pianist prodigy around the world.
"Even Victor himself is a pro in his industry. It's only been a few years since graduation. How did his standards for a wife drop so drastically?"
"To put it nicely, she's a housewife. In reality, she's a lazy pest who achieved nothing and wants to live a life of luxury by relying on her husband."
Emily stood in the corner alone as she listened to the mockery. She couldn't help but recall the time when she was considered a powerhouse in her industry.
Back then, she could easily earn a few million dollars from a single case. Everyone respected her wherever she went. They were even willing to get in line so she could work on their cases.
For love, Emily was willing to step away and immerse herself in the role of a wife. But everyone considered her a pest.
A smirk played on her lips. She found it extremely ironic that she was the only one moved by her own sacrifices.
Although Victor heard those whispers as well, he didn't bother explaining himself. Instead, he calmly changed the topic. "Everyone's here. Amelia, didn't you say you wanted to play a few games?"
Very quickly, the private room became lively again. Someone brought out a game wheel, and everyone started playing a game.
Victor was fully focused on Amelia and didn't really look at his cards. In the end, he lost the first round.
The selected punishment was to check Victor's phone gallery and his notes. Everyone hurried over and snatched his phone away.
As soon as they tapped on his gallery, they saw at least ten thousand photos. Amelia was in each picture.
There was an adorable ID picture of Amelia in her youth and photos Victor took with her when they were still dating. Everyone also saw the photos she posted post-breakup on Instagram.
The classmates continued scrolling, but the gallery was all photos of Amelia. They dared not scroll further and hurriedly checked his notes app.
Paragraph after paragraph, Victor had typed out Amelia's likes and dislikes in detail. He even wrote down their happy times together when they were still dating. After the breakup, he had typed out his painful thoughts that he couldn't share with anyone.
All his paragraphs were filled with unmistakable love and pain. Reading all that made his classmates feel slightly disheartened. From time to time, they would look back and forth between Victor and Amelia.
Even Amelia couldn't help but look at Victor, who was in a drunken haze. An indescribable sorrow flashed in his eyes. The entire room also fell into an awkward tension.
Emily, who had witnessed all this with her own eyes, felt a wave of emotions overwhelm her. She could no longer act as if nothing was wrong. She hurriedly headed for the washroom and rinsed her face with cold water.
Once she was back, she realized that Victor had lost the game again. The punishment he had drawn this time was to call the love of his life and make a confession.
Although he seemed drunk, he had heard the rules of the game clearly. He reached for his phone and dialed a number.
Not long after, Amelia's phone rang in the private room. As soon as she answered the call, Victor boldly met her gaze with a slight smile.
"When I was 18, I had nothing at all. But I felt I had the whole world because I had the love of my life by my side.
"Although I look extremely successful now, I lost the love of my youth. I feel empty now because I have nothing anymore."
As Emily watched Victor confess his undying love for Amelia in front of everyone, she couldn't help but chuckle.
As she laughed, tears started welling up in her eyes. But she looked up and did not let her tears fall. Instead, she quietly turned to leave.
