Chapter 7
Once Emily was home, she started sorting out the assets for her divorce from Victor. Indeed, he had earned a lot after they got married, which was part of their joint assets. According to the law, she would receive half of his assets.
But Emily didn't want those properties and cars. She only wanted the money, and she even made up her mind to donate everything to charity.
During that time, Victor still hadn't returned. She had no idea what he was busy with. Instead, she gave Amelia a call so they could have a chat.
Both agreed to meet at a cafe. After making some small talk, Amelia finally apologized for what happened during her birthday.
"Ms. Green, my friends had too much to drink that day, so they were out of line. I hope you could be generous enough to forgive them if they offended you in any way."
Emily smirked. "It won't happen again. I'll be leaving Hillside very soon, so that incident means nothing to me."
Upon hearing that Emily would be leaving soon, astonishment flashed across Amelia's face before it was replaced with delight.
"Are you leaving? Is it because of me? I'm sorry. It's true that Victor and I used to date, but that was a very long time ago. I…"
But Emily had noticed the look of delight in Amelia's eyes. She looked up and met her gaze boldly.
"Ms. Foster, may I be so bold to ask whether you've truly moved on? Even if you did, Victor never moved on from you.
"Every day, he wears his earphones so he can fall asleep, listening to you playing the piano. Whenever he gets drunk, he keeps mumbling your name. On your birthdays, he would buy a cake and sit with it all night in his study."
Emily paused for a moment. After recalling these past events, she suddenly felt extremely worn out. "No matter how much I do, he'll never have a place for me in his heart.
"All this proves that he won't fall for me just because I genuinely love him. I'm tired, so I've decided to give up on this marriage."
Amelia listened to Emily in a daze. After some time, she finally asked tentatively, "So… Are you really planning to divorce Victor?"
"Yes. We've already signed the divorce agreement. Tomorrow is our last day of the cooling-off period. In the future, anything that happens to him has nothing to do with me."
Emily had shared everything from the bottom of her heart. Without even looking at Amelia, Emily picked up her bag and stood up. She was prepared to leave.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw a group of crazy fans waiting outside the door, all holding lightsticks in support of Amelia. They suddenly dashed over as if they were ready to burst into the room.
Emily's expression shifted, and she hurriedly locked the door. However, the fans kept kicking at the door to the private room.
As Emily and Amelia were stuck in the room, there was no way for them to escape.
Amelia never expected that she would run into so many fanatical fans at such a time. Left with no choice, she could only give Victor a call and explain everything so he could help her.
Very quickly, Victor arrived at the location. He managed to push his way through the crowd and reach the private room door. Among the chaos, he was able to make his way inside.
Since Victor had hurried over in a frenzy, his usually well-pressed blazer looked slightly crumpled.
"Amelia, there are too many fans blocking outside. The only way now is to get you two to switch blazers. I'll bring you out first."
Amelia had experienced fervent fans chasing after her and blocking her way. She instantly shot Emily a pleading look.
Emily felt empty. Victor had come up with the perfect plan to protect his first love, but he never considered what would happen to Emily.
She chuckled self-mockingly but said nothing. She took off her blazer right away.
Once she and Amelia had put on each other's blazers, Victor didn't even cast a glance at Emily and led Amelia out of the room.
The door to the private room was left unlocked momentarily. Very quickly, Emily locked it once again. She wore Amelia's blazer, listening to the chaos outside as it grew more frenzied than ever.
After waiting for a very long time, the fans outside were beginning to lose their patience. They forcefully kicked down the door to the private room.
