Chapter 4

Sally, who looked sickly earlier, returned to normal as soon as Brandon, Yves, and Harvey left. She strode over to block Rebecca's path. "This watch is beautiful, Ms. Underwood. Can I have a look? Since you're giving it to the three Shaw brothers anyway, I'll help you decide who it would suit better." Rebecca looked at her coldly and immediately refused, "It's not for them." Sally's expression froze for a split second before she started scoffing. "Don't you know that it's cheap to play hard-to-get, Ms. Underwood? But I'm not blaming you—you've poured out so much after all, yet they still don't love you. Of course you'd be anxious about it." She then snatched the watch out of Rebecca's hand while the latter's guard was lowered and smashed it hard onto the ground. The million-dollar watch had been shattered into pieces. Rebecca watched the scene unfold in disbelief. Anger flared up within her as she raised her hand to slap Sally. The loud slap rang out, and Sally instinctively cupped her swollen cheek, stunned. Yet it wasn't enough to quench Rebecca's anger. She was about to land another slap when someone grabbed her wrist tightly. "Stop it!" Brandon, Yves, and Harvey showed up out of nowhere and were glaring derisively at her. Sally's tears started falling when she saw that they were finally here to back her up. "Just let Ms. Underwood hit me! It's all my fault for breaking her gift for all of you. It's only natural for her to be angry." Yves' heart broke seeing her cry. He gently wiped her tears away while softly comforting her, "Don't cry, Sally. It's for us anyway—so what if it's broken?" Harvey's expression turned cold as he stared at Rebecca in disgust. "You're hitting Sally over a watch? You're going overboard, Rebecca! When you bid on it to give it to us, have you ever thought that none of us wanted it?" Brandon's face darkened as he called for the bodyguards. "Security! Toss her into the pool! It's her punishment for hitting Sally!" The bodyguards immediately rushed forward upon receiving orders. They grabbed Rebecca, who couldn't react in time, and tossed her into the pool. She was instantly drenched, looking like a drowned rat. What was worse was that she couldn't even swim. "Help me… help…" Rebecca flailed about in a panic, yet it only caused more water to rush into her nose and flood her lungs. She was starting to lose her strength, her struggles growing weaker as her body sank deeper. She felt herself losing oxygen as her vision gradually blurred. Right before Rebecca lost consciousness, she barely caught fragments of the conversation from above. "Brandon, Yves, Harvey, Ms. Underwood doesn't seem to know how to swim. Is she going to be alright?" "Nothing will happen. She's always good at pretending. She's merely faking her drowning for our attention." "You're just too kind-hearted, Sally. Even though she bullied you, you're still defending her. She deserves this!" "That's right! It's for the best if she dies. No other suitor will be lining up to marry us anymore!" A wave of despair washed over Rebecca as she heard those words. Darkness eventually swallowed her as her body sank deeper into the water, and she lost consciousness completely. … The sharp sting of disinfectant filled Rebecca's nose when she regained consciousness. She struggled to get up. Lisa Morty, her doctor who had looked after her for years, gave her a pained look. "You can't keep neglecting your body like this, Ms. Underwood. "You broke two of your ribs to save the three Shaw brothers during the earthquake. Your health has been declining since then. How could you stay in the water for so long?" Just then, the door to the ward was suddenly pushed open. Brandon, Yves, and Harvey barged in and asked in unison, "Who did you say saved us during the earthquake?"
