Chapter 5

Rebecca was taken aback. She then looked at them calmly and said, "I believe I've said this before, but I was the one who saved you during the earthquake." She was about to marry Frank, so she wasn't about to use this to win their favor again. She was merely speaking the truth. Rebecca wasn't expecting them to lose it. "I can't believe you got someone to put on an act just to fool us!" "Do you think we'd believe in your nonsense? Don't you think we'd know better than anyone who was the one who saved us?" "No matter how much you tried to pretend and win our favors, we would never marry you, Rebecca!" Rebecca wasn't surprised to hear their outbursts. As expected, they wouldn't believe in her even if the proof was right in front of them. As such, this would be the last time. She would stop talking about it and move on. Rebecca closed her eyes, about to ask them to leave, when Yves suddenly said, "We've always known what happened during the earthquake, but Sally's cheek is still swollen from your slap. You must get on your knees and beg for her forgiveness!" She couldn't believe her ears. It was only a slap—how could Sally's cheek still be swollen? Besides, Sally was the one who broke Rebecca's watch. Not only had they humiliated her by tossing her into the water, but they even wanted to force her to her knees to beg for forgiveness? Rebecca said, "She was the one who broke my watch. Why should I apologize to her?" Brandon's gaze turned cold upon seeing her reluctance. With an air of unquestionable authority, he barked, "You will go today, whether you want to or not! Security! Bring her out and get her to kneel before Sally. She can't leave until Sally forgives her!" Even Lisa was utterly shocked by how outrageous the situation was. She was about to defend Rebecca, but the bodyguards pinned her down. A burly bodyguard ripped out the IV needle from Rebecca's hand while another dragged her out of the hospital bed. She was too weak to muster any strength to even struggle against them. As she was pushed out of the door, she fought against it, trying her best to protect the last shred of her dignity as the daughter of the Underwood family. Rebecca refused to apologize when she had done nothing wrong—especially to Sally, who had slandered her. Her fingertips turned white from how much force she was exerting. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she screamed hysterically, "If you dare force me to apologize, I'll die right in front of you!" The defiance and stubbornness in Rebecca's gaze hurt Brandon, Yves, and Harvey. It was the first time they'd ever seen her cry after so many years, and they were surprised to see how agitated she was. A wave of unexpected panic washed over them. After a moment of silence, Brandon cleared his throat awkwardly before coldly giving a warning. "We'll let it go this time. But we won't do the same if you dare to bully Sally again!" Yves and Harvey seemed shaken as well, their attitude softening. "Let her go." Rebecca pressed herself tightly against the wall after she was released. She watched the three of them leave before tears finally rolled down her cheeks. … Rebecca was hospitalized for three whole days. She was only discharged after her body had recovered. The first thing she did after being discharged wasn't to go home. Instead, she bought several bouquets of flowers and rushed over to her marital home, planning to finish the final touches of the decorations. However, when Rebecca pushed the door open, she was shocked to find her carefully decorated marital home in a mess. All the wedding decorations were torn down, replaced with pink and white balloons and decorations that read: "Happy 23rd Birthday, Sally!" Every piece of carefully chosen decorations and ornaments was now smeared with cream and tangled in colorful confetti. Music blasted through the place as everyone soaked in the happy atmosphere of a birthday celebration. The noisy crowd chased each other around the villa, turning the five-tier cake into ammunition for an all-out cake fight. Rebecca felt her heart skip a beat as she took in the sight. She struggled to keep herself up as she walked over to yank the plug on the speaker. The music stopped abruptly.
