Chapter 6

Brandon, Yves, and Harvey turned to look at Rebecca, displeasure written all over their faces. She suppressed her rage and asked in disbelief, "Why are you throwing a party in my marital home?" Brandon frowned before replying nonchalantly, "This is the Shaw family's villa. What's wrong with us throwing a birthday party for Sally here?" Yves' gaze was indifferent. "This marital home wouldn't be of use in the future anyway, Rebecca. No matter who you choose to marry, we won't be coming back here anyway. So we might as well make use of the place now." Harvey scoffed and said, "You should feel honored that we even chose to host Sally's birthday party here. What are you so upset about?" Sally carried all her gifts and walked over. "Look, Ms. Underwood. This is the custom-made dress Brandon gave me. There's only one of its kind in the world. Isn't it beautiful? "Yves gave me these cruise tickets, and this is the estate Harvey gave me as a gift. We should go visit it together sometime, alright?" She took everything out one by one, eyes sparkling as she flaunted them. "They're so good to me! Not only did they shower me with gifts, but they even allowed me to throw a party here. Since you're here too, why don't you join us?" Rebecca could barely keep her composure as she fumed with anger. She yelled, "I've said this many times, but none of you are my marriage partner! This is not our marital home, and you have no right to be here!" "There you go again, Rebecca. Isn't once enough? You just love putting on this act, don't you?" "We're the only ones of age in the Shaw family. Who else are you marrying if not us?" "Since you're claiming that it's not us, why don't you call your so-called marriage partner then? I'd like to see who this mysterious person is." Rebecca's veins throbbed angrily as she dealt with the mocking crowd. Just then, her phone rang, and the caller ID read, "Frank." Rebecca's heart skipped a beat. With reddening eyes, she gritted out, "Fine! Didn't you say you wanted to know who my marriage partner is? He's calling me now—I'll show you who he is right now!" She then flipped her phone around and showed the screen to everyone. Almost everyone in the villa gathered around to have a look at once, but they burst out laughing soon after. "Didn't you want to show us your marriage partner, Ms. Underwood? Why is your phone screen black?" "Look at you—you couldn't keep up the act, and now you're faced with a dead end!" Rebecca's expression fell. She quickly turned her phone back around, pressing the power button repeatedly, yet it wouldn't turn on. The battery was dead. She hurried to find a charger, but Brandon blocked her way. "Enough. Aren't you embarrassed for making a scene like this?" "I didn't—" Before Rebecca could finish her sentence, Yves coldly barked, "Security! Tear this so-called marital home apart!" Several black-clad bodyguards stepped out after receiving orders. With stoic faces, they immediately started wrecking the furniture and ornaments. Several young heirs were eager to join amidst the chaos and soon started tearing the place apart. "What are you doing? How dare you touch this place! Brandon, Yves, Harvey, no!" Rebecca screamed hysterically. She rushed forward to stop them, only for two bodyguards to grab her shoulders on each side and restrain her. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she watched everything she'd carefully decorated go to waste. She was filled with rage and despair, her entire body numb with chills. Harvey scoffed. He was no longer flustered seeing Rebecca's red, crying eyes. "Did you really think we'd let you off again just because you're crying? This is the price you pay for lying. If you're smart, you'll stop playing hard-to-get just to catch our attention." She was beyond despair, seeing the once-elegant and homey villa being smashed to ruins. The noisy crowd soon left, leaving Rebecca all alone in the wreckage of the villa. … Rebecca wandered back home after some time. When she finally plugged in her phone and turned it back on, she realized Frank had called her several times. She quickly called him back after composing herself. She was extremely nervous as she waited for him to pick up the call. Rebecca and Frank did not grow up together. Although he was only five years older, his status always placed an invisible distance between them. They'd barely had any real interactions. She could only recall a vague figure when she thought of him. The call never went through, and Rebecca's nerves gradually calmed down. However, Frank's texts came shortly after. His text read: "I'm in a meeting now. I called you earlier to tell you that I'll be back tomorrow. The Shaws are hosting a welcome party, and I'll be announcing our engagement during the party."
