Chapter 6

Finally, Timothy's conscience forced him to turn to look at Jasmine. He was stunned for a bit when he saw the rashes over her body. "Jasmine, are you done? I thought you'd stop stirring up trouble after getting injured. But now, you're causing a mess and making me irritable again." Matthew shot her a displeased look and stepped back in disdain. He didn't even intend to help her up. Jasmine closed her eyes. Overwhelmed with a wave of anger, helplessness, and bitterness, she felt the urge to grip their collars and question them. Instead, she took a deep breath and slumped to the ground. "Do you think I asked for this? I'm allergic to eggs, but you added eggs to my food. Can I sue you for attempted murder, then?" she questioned. Jasmine stared intently at Timothy in silence, her tearful eyes laced with melancholy. A sudden realization dawned upon him and hit him like a thunderbolt. They knew Jasmine had a severe allergy to eggs. … Back when they were in college, Jasmine had accidentally eaten eggs and had been sent to the hospital by ambulance. Up until now, Timothy and Matthew still remembered that her face had flushed red, and she couldn't even utter a word. She had been barely breathing, and they had thought she couldn't make it. The two had stayed by her side for a whole week and even skipped classes. As a result, they received warnings for that. When Jasmine regained consciousness, she was greeted by Timothy, who had dark circles under his eyes, and Matthew, whose face was pale. … Tension filled the air at once. Matthew gasped. "You know she'd die from the allergic reaction if she ate eggs!" Timothy raised his voice but lowered it again. "I thought she was putting on an act again!" The effect of the medicine finally kicked in, and Jasmine's breathing gradually became steady. Leaning against the wall, she watched as the two went from fury and panic to acting awkwardly. She thought their reactions were just laughable. Matthew and Timothy exchanged looks and pursed their lips. Then, Matthew apologized awkwardly, "I'm sorry. I misunderstood you." Looking concerned, Timothy touched Jasmine's forehead. "I'm sorry. I thought you were throwing a tantrum because of Lyn. "How do you feel? I'll get the doctor—" Jasmine tilted her head and avoided his hand. She supported herself against the wall to stand up. The wound on her knee was still burning. Staring at Timothy and Matthew, who used to be so close to her, she suddenly felt like she didn't know them anymore. "I'm going back to Jenvil tomorrow. You don't have to come with me," she stated calmly. Timothy knitted his brows. "But your injury—" "It's nothing. You guys don't care, anyway." Jasmine cut him off. Matthew pursed his lips. "We're sorry, but you should apologize to Lyn, too. Because of you, she—" "That's enough!"
