Chapter 5

Intrigued, Jasmine sized Timothy and Matthew up. "My mom misses me, so she wants to meet me. Do you want to come along?" she asked. Timothy and Matthew no longer had a place for Jasmine in their hearts, and they grew increasingly irritated with her because of Lynette. Jasmine likely wouldn't cross paths with them again after she returned to Jenvil. Hence, she didn't see the point of telling them the truth. She didn't plan to invite them to her wedding when she married Sebastian Campbell anyway. Timothy and Matthew were caught off guard by her words. It had been many years, but Jasmine had never gone home once. They were baffled by her unusual act today, but they didn't probe further. Timothy replied coldly, "I'm not going. I'm swamped with work and can't make time for it. Take care of yourself." Then, he glanced at the bandage around Jasmine's arm. "It must be really painful, huh? Remember this, and don't go against Lyn anymore next time." As soon as he finished saying that, he returned to his room. Frowning, Matthew looked at Jasmine's injury. "Apologize to Lyn. I need to travel to Jenvil for an event tomorrow, so I can probably meet your mom with you." Without saying a word, Jasmine went back to her room. Then, she lay on the bed. "At least grab a bite. Jas, you're injured. You should eat something nutritious for a faster recovery." Timothy knocked on the door. She had been woken up from her sleep. Knitting her brows, she went to open the door. He was holding an exquisite-looking plate. The food was well-presented, and it smelled great. Jasmine took it and thanked him indifferently before closing the door. She wasn't paying much attention when she took the last bite. Suddenly, she sensed something amiss. Her eyes widened as she clutched her throat, feeling as though needles were prickling it. Her throat swelled up instantly, and she could hardly swallow anything. She scraped the remaining food and was startled to see the eggs inside. Jasmine would experience a severe allergic reaction when she ate eggs. Her vision became blurry, and everything appeared hazy. She groped her way to the medicine cabinet in the living room, but her arm accidentally brushed against the glass on the dining table. The glass shattered into pieces, and the sticky orange juice splattered on the floor. Jasmine couldn't be bothered to care about that and continued walking forward. However, she panicked and accidentally kicked an antique vase in the living room. "No!" She reached out feebly and wanted to hold the item for support, but she couldn't even control her fingers. The valuable vase fell on the ground, breaking into pieces. The water splashed over, and the flowers scattered around the floor. To make things worse, she hit the wine rack, and a bottle of Lafite 1982 rolled down the rack. The dark red liquid spread across the carpet like blood. Jasmine knelt in front of the medicine cabinet and pulled the drawer with her trembling hands. Her lips began swelling from the allergic reaction, and patches of rash appeared across her body. She fumbled through the drawer, and the tablets and medical tools were all over the floor. Just then, she heard quick footsteps approaching from upstairs. Timothy and Matthew rushed down in a huff when they heard the noises. "Jasmine, what the hell are you doing?" Timothy stood at the stairway, and his expression darkened instantly when he saw the mess in the living room. Quivering, Jasmine opened the medicine box, but Matthew suddenly pushed her. "Stop pretending!" "Ahh!" She lost her balance, and her knee hit the sharp edge of the coffee table. A sharp pain shot through, and she felt the warm blood trickling down her shin, but the pain was nothing compared to the fear of suffocation. She curled up in a corner and struggled to shove the tablet into her mouth. The tablet was stuck in her swollen throat, and she couldn't even swallow it. Jasmine grabbed the cup on the coffee table and finished the water at once. The medicine gradually took effect, reducing the swelling in her throat. Jasmine leaned against the window, struggling to catch her breath. She stared at the two in front of her while they discussed the loss and damage of those valuable items. They didn't even spare a glance at Jasmine in the corner. Her knee was still bleeding, and the rashes from the allergic reaction hadn't subsided. Yet, none of them asked about her condition.
