Chapter 22
Paige was about to turn and leave. As she closed the door, she heard Reagan sigh softly, almost like a whisper.
"Mom, during those three years, I thought about suicide countless times. If Paige hadn't stayed by my side, your son would be nothing but bones by now. You really shouldn't have spoken to her that way.
"Even now, I still feel far luckier than she is. I still have you, but she's all alone in this world. She loved me with everything she had, holding nothing back.
"All she received in return was a broken, worthless version of me. I don't even have one thing to show her how much I love her.
"So if I can just love her, make her feel even a little less alone in this world, that's enough for me."
Paige paused, then spun on her heel and pushed the conference room door open. "Reagan, let me be clear. I've never liked you—not even for a single day.
